When the articles for this issue started
coming in, I began to wonder if someone wasn't trying
to tell me something. "The Sandwich Generation,"
"A Hitchhiker's Guide to Chiropractic," "Pilates"
and "Why All Trusts Are Not Created Equal."
Yes, I'm at that age where all of these things pique
my interest.
Then I read a quote in one of the articles that made
me think a bit more. The author of the quote is listed
as unknown, but it's such a popular quote, most of us
have heard it. "Life is not measured by the number
of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our
breath away." Another version of this quote, purported
to be the original (again by "author unknown"),
changes the words around a little. "Life is not
measured by the number of breaths you take, but by every
moment that takes your breath away." A fine difference,
but in reading the quotes together, I prefer the latter
as it reminds me those moments are out there. I don't
have to go looking for them, I merely need to be aware.
Next came the article "Amsterdam: The City of
Water," and I was taken back to an idyllic summer
in Europe, Amsterdam included. It was a time that definitely
took my breath away. An article on boating reminded
me of all the time I've spent on the water-Hawaii, the
Caribbean, California, the Jersey Shore, Mexico and
growing up in Minnesota, the land of 10,000 lakes. I've
had many moments that take my breath away, and I expect
to have many more. Reading the articles that come to
the View allows me wonderful opportunities to speculate
on what those might be.
That's the long way of saying what we at the View
are hoping to bring you-ideas for breathtaking moments.
Whether it's a journey to Amsterdam with our intrepid
travel contributor, Susan Lanier-Graham, enjoying a
fine wine with our wine sleuth, Karl Von Senden, cooking
pizza on the grill with Chef Brad, touring the European
Fine Arts Fair, or learning what's best for your body,
we offer you wonderful ways to live the best life.
Lastly, because it's a long hot summer, especially
in Arizona, we know people are kicking back in their
pools, going on vacation or simply hanging out where
it's cool. And isn't it always better to do those things
with a good book to read? We think so, and to help you
with your selections, we decided to focus on Arizona
authors and ask them what they're reading this summer.
