There may be no better authority on what to read than the people who write for a living. So this summer we went straight to the source and asked a handful of Arizona authors a simple question: what's on your own nightstand?
Their answers were, happily, all over the map - a literary novel here, a guilty-pleasure thriller there, a work of history, a book of poems. If there was a common thread, it was that good writers read widely and without snobbery, chasing whatever pulls them in.
Consider it a reading list assembled by people who know the craft from the inside. Pick one, find a shaded chair by the pool, and let a long Arizona afternoon disappear into someone else's words. It is one of summer's simplest luxuries - and one of its best.
